Reṇukā/Renuga/Renu is a Hindu goddess worshipped predominantly in the Indian states of Karanataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.[1] Renuka’s temple at Mahur in Maharashtra is considered one of the shakti peethas. Renuka Mata, (the wife of Sage Jamadagni) was decapitated by her own son Parashurama and her head fell in Mahur. Renuka was later given rebirth as a boon by Sage Jamadagni to his son Parashurama.

Renuka/Renu or Yellamma or Ekvira or Ellai amman or Ellai amma /Renu) is worshipped as the goddess (devi) of the fallen, in the Hindu pantheon. Yellamma is the patron goddess of the south Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Her devotees revere her as the “Mother of the Universe” or “Jagadamba”.

Renuka Mata (Mahurgud Nivasini Jagadamba) Mandir, Nanded district

The temple is considered as a revered shrine for the Shaktism sect because the Shrine is a Shakti Peetha
Mahur finds mention in the ancient Devi Bhagawatam as “Matripura” or “Matapur”, where it is mention as one of the famous pilgrimages.[3] In Devi Gita the final and most important chapter of the text, it is mentioned as one of the important places of Shakti worship:

“Devi spoke:… I am now telling something out of My affection to My Bhaktas… Matripura or “Matapur” in the Sahyadri mountain; here the Devi Renuka or Matapur Niwasini Jagdamba Devi dwells.unquote.
Renuka Devi temple is 800 years old.

Mahur or Mahurgad is a town and religious place in Nanded district of Maharashtra, India.

Ekaveerika Devi Temple, Nanded district

It is said that Ekaveerika Devi is the elder sister of Renukadevi. Ekaveerika Devi temple is 8 km from Renuka Devi temple on Nanded high way and 300M from the main road.
Mahur is famous for Renuka Devi temple and very few people are knowing about Ekaveerika Devi temple as Renuka Devi temple is a shakti peeth. We find more rush at Renuka Devi temple than Ekaveerika Mata temple.

The goddess worshiped in the temple is associated with Parasurama’s (an incarnation of Vishnu) mother Renuka, the wife of the sage Jamadagni. One of her sons is Parashurama who is the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism and he is one of the chiranjeevis who will appear at the end of the Kali yuga to be the guru of Vishnu’s tenth and last avatar Kalki She is revered as one of the Saptamatrika or seven divine mothers, who protected the earth and its rulers.

The temple is crowded in the occasion of full moon day, new moon day and on Navaratri which is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights (and ten days) and is celebrated every year in the autumn. Festivals are also held at the venue of the temple twice a year during October to April.

Yellamma Temple, also known as Renuka Temple, is a pilgrimage destination located about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) away from the town of Saundatti in the Indian state of Karnataka.
